Katlego Modiri

1 June 2018 to 20 June 2018
With this exhibition of works on paper titled REVIVE, Pretoria artist Katlego Modiri continues with a theme that comes from his previous series, ERODE.
Modiri is a printmaker and focuses on the human figure, primarily the male figure.  He explores themes of power, romanticism and mystery and his influences range from classicism to comic book art and poster art.  “I continue to explore shape and form and project it in its minimal form.  The aim is to explore and elaborate on themes of adolescent culture, social status and identity in homogenized groups. I am interested in the after effects of social group conformity.”

“Stripping the figure of race, personality and flesh, allows one to appreciate the simplicity of form without judgment and subjection.  I hope to inject a sense of reflection to the viewer.”

Modiri, who studied printmaking and glass at Tshwane University of Technology earned his B-Tech in Fine Arts in 2012, has been practicing his art full time for the past four years.  The artist has taken part in numerous exhibitions. Since his work has been recognized, he is doing both voluntary and paid work including for government projects and private companies.
