Michael Teffo

In the beginning

Michael Teffo, a much lauded artist, who held his first solo exhibition at the Association of Arts Pretoria in 1978, holds an exhibition of wood sculptures from 18 May 2018.  He has held various solo-exhibitions and participated in several group exhibitions since.  Teffo is mainly self-taught and a versatile artist.   However, he does not feel the lack of formal training as he does not wish to be influenced by other artists, but wants to remain himself in his attempts at showing life and interpreting it through symbols.

The artist applies a metaphorical approach to investigate the spiritual relationship of God’s creations.  “We are also spiritual beings able to recreate forms that God has given.  Abstract art is multi-form - Elephant and Rhino simultaneously become Eleph-Rhino, Amphibian and Reptile becomes one in Crocodile –Frog.”
