J F C (John) Clarke
The Space Between
18 September 2015 to 7 October 2015
An exhibition of pastel paintings, pencil drawings and digital prints
J F C (John) Clarke is a well-known and revered artist. His refined work shows his investigation of the interplay between inside and outside and is a rare subtlety.
His ideas and images are inspired by the natural and cultural landscape of Southern Africa and from insights derived from local, archaeological and historical narratives. This inspiration was further strengthened by his travels to India and Turkey. His works reveal a particular affinity for the dry, powdery quality of pastel, fragile yet versatile, and the range of tones and muted hues that are characteristic of the medium.
John says: “I intend that a quality of stillness should permeate my work.”
The exhibition will be opened by Dr Eunice Basson on Friday 18 September 2015 at 18h30 for 19h00 and runs until 7 October 2015. John will do a walkabout on Saturday 26 September 2015 at 11h00.
