With his exhibition ‘the monstrous and unruly female body is explored, alongside the allure of ink mediums, to uncover the ways in which we struggle to come to terms with the abject female body,’ the artist states.  ‘The main purpose of my work is to dissolve the fetishized surface of the female body in order to reveal the abject traces of decay and bodily fluids of the interior.’
Â
Thelma first completed her studies in Psychology and Physical Education before she completed a B Tech degree in Fine Arts at Tshwane University of Technology. Two years ago she completed a Masters degree at UP and is currently enrolled as a PhD candidate in Practice Based Research at Plymouth University in the United Kingdom.
Â
Since graduating in 2007 she has participated in eight solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions across the country.  She was a finalist in the Sasol New Signatures competition in 2007, Sanlam Vuleka Fine Art competition in 2009, Thami Mnjele Fine Art Awards from 2009 to 2011 and the For the Love of arts competition in 2014 and 2015.Â
