Viona Viljoen - Wild Women
15 September 2017 to 4 October 2017Â
Viona Viljoen is a Pretoria based artist. She is a nature lover and environmentalist and sees herself as energetic and passionate, elements that are portrayed in her work.
Â
“I love to paint real people, sincere, full of character, with honest expressions of who they really are and with no modern expectations or perfections,†Viljoen says about her work. She enjoys working with oil on board or canvas, and has a great admiration for the old masters’ craftsmanship.
Â
“Wild women†was born from a taste for the wilder side of life (Viona is also a passionate foodie and motorcyclist) and to illustrate this she uses the quote from Clarissa Pinkola Estés’s well known book Women who run with the wolves:  “As a woman lives them, she will understand more and more of these interior feminine rhythms, among them the rhythms of creativity, or birthing psychic babies and perhaps also human ones, the rhythms of solitude, of play, of rest, of sexuality, and of the huntâ€.
