Elisca du Toit -Â First Impressions
25 May to 18 June 2022Â
Using architectural elements as symbols, the artist Elisca du Toit in these works search for the hidden meaning in everyday life.   †Doorways symbolise the passage between one place or state of being to the next and windows serve as a metaphor for clarity change and hope. “ Â
Du Toit says that in this body of work she wants to reflect the inspiring delight of being able to see with extraordinary vision. “This passage is similar to movement through different stages of life, such as the journey from childhood to adulthood.â€Â Â
The strong sense of geometry and structural ingenuity in designs by William Morris has a major influence on her work, as well as the quiet cityscapes of De Chirico and architectural elements in the work of Escher.
