Born in Bloemfontein into an artistic household with his father, Mike Edwards, being an artist and lecturer in fine arts, he became interested in art as a career in high school.  He studied fine arts at the University of Pretoria and graduated in 1989.  In 1988 he won the New Signatures first prize, has never looked back, and has exhibited at least once a year.
 
Balance and living in harmony with the environment are man's only possible salvation, he maintains.  By making use of the juxtaposition of organic and geometric shapes, he illustrates the potential balance and peace of man and environment. 
 
Through his paintings and sculptures, he delves into the symbolic power of the sphere or circle, representing the interconnectedness of our world and the constant pursuit of balance.  He employs sourced recycled materials to make the sculptures that serve as poignant reminders of our ecological footprint.  His paintings reflect this theme of balance through swirling, circular motifs, evoking the delicate harmony we must strive for in our interactions with the planet.
