Lynette ten Krooden - MIRARI

2 to 23 September 2023

From 2 to 23 September 2023 the Association of Arts Pretoria exhibited works by renowned local artist Lynette ten Krooden, under the collective title Mirari which is the Latin for ‘to wonder at’; admire; miracle.  Through French and later English, the word mirage also came into being.

Ten Krooden states: “In the wilderness of the unsaid world, this place of wonder is a sanctuary for the wordless artist.  This naturally occurring optical phenomenon bends light rays to display objects in the distance or the sky.  In a realm where boundaries of reality blur, an enchanting mirage unfurls its intricate tapestry of illusion.  Quiet imaginary blankets of mist cover sand and stone and water.”

“Time also bends and sways like fluid and changes reality into an illusion.  A fossilised opal, cradled by the ancient hands of Time, holds secrets from eons past, each droplet a prism reflecting a fractured rainbow.  The metaphysical journey continues between ancient wisdoms and contemporary thoughts.   Eyes and mind fill with wonder, thoughts of solitude, bewilderment, joy.”

As an artist Lynette ten Krooden needs no introduction.  This exhibition of ever-changing canvasses is a witness to the eternal play of human curiosity and wonder that started many years ago.
