Johan Conradie
Johan Conradie holds a MA (Visual Arts) degree from the University of Pretoria and has been teaching at a number of institutions since 2002; including UNISA (2002-05), University of Pretoria (2005-8 on a contract basis), and FRIED-Contemporary (2005-07). He has since focussed on advanced tutoring for private students. A group of more than 50 of his private students participated in the recent Baroque: historical incarnations exhibition, held at the Association of Arts Pretoria. Conradie is also a practicing artist and has taken part in several exhibitions, including the Absa Atelier in 1999, 2000, 2006 and 2008. He also exhibited with Jan van der Merwe and Willem Boshoff in a 3-person show entitled Lost (2007), and with Dianne Victor and Francois van Reenen in a show called Angels & Demons (2008). Conradie currently teaches 7 art classes, and only accepts 8 individuals per group in order to provide a high level of individual tuition. The expertise amongst his student’s ranges from beginners to advanced.
A number of his students are working on BA (FA) degrees at university level. The main aim of Conradie’s teaching is to equip students with the technical ability, personal commitment, sound artistic principles, and conceptual understanding needed to create art. Many people want sound professional input in their art-marking but are unable attend a university, due to the fact that they are working, or have family obligations. Conradie’s classes focus mostly on students who want to improve their understanding of the oil-medium, though many also work in mixed media. He also organises art tours to international art events such as the Venice Biennale.
